Marriott International, Wyndham Worldwide and The Rezidor Hotel Group have been recognised in the 2011 World’s Most Ethical Companies by the Ethisphere Institute.

The annual list acknowledges companies from across the world that are leading their industry in principled business practices, ethical standards and corporate responsibility.

“As companies strive to maintain a competitive advantage, good ethics translate into better business, and better business means better bottom lines,” said Alex Brigham, executive director of the Ethisphere Institute.

A methodology committee of leading attorneys, professors, government officials and organisation leaders assisted in creating the demanding criteria for the awards.

“This significant recognition is a testament to Marriott’s commitment to doing business with integrity,” said Ed Ryan, executive vice-president and general counsel, Marriott International.  “Upholding high ethical standards is important to our competitive advantage and to maintaining strong relationships with our shareholders, owners and guests and attracting and retaining the best associates in the business.”

Marriott’s commitment to ethical business earned the hotel giant a spot in the list for the fourth year running, while Rezidor and Wyndham joined the rankings for a second consecutive year.

“We defended our rank by further going the extra mile and by working with upright business practices that support our success, bring benefit to the community and raise the bar for ethical standards within the industry,” said Kurt Ritter, president and CEO of Rezidor.

Ethisphere, a think-tank dedicated to the creation, advancement and sharing of best practice in business ethics, corporate social responsibility, anti-corruption and sustainability, ranked 110 companies in the list, only four of which were in the “Hotels, Travel and Hospitality” category.

“Each year, the competition gets more intense for the World’s Most Ethical Companies and this year was no exception with a record number of organisations vying for this distinguished honour,” Brigham added.
